About NIHFW

National Institute of Health & Family Welfare (NIHFW) is an Apex Technical Institute, funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for promotion of Health and Family Welfare programmes in the country through education, training, research, evaluation, consultancy and specialised services.


NIHFW was established on 9th March, 1977 by merger of National Institute of Health Administration and Education (NIHAE) and National Institute of Family Planning (NIFP).

NIHFW is currently headed by Prof. Deoki Nandan, Director of the Institute. Earlier he has worked as Principal, Dean & Chief of one of the oldest Medical Colleges in the country, S. N. Medical College, Agra. He is known for his acumenship, leading reforms in Health Sector and Hospitals. He is a renowned Public Health Expert and is known for his contribution Nationally and Internationally. He has been National President of Indian Public Health Association & Indian Association for preventive & Social Medicine. He provided consultancy to various international organisations and Health Departments of Foreign countries. He is member of several task force and working groups.
