Abstract :
Aims to assessment of the health ralated quality of life and its various domain such as health perception, disability and fucntional status, psycho-social well being in relation to various socio-demographic factors of elderly population more than 60 years of age. This is cross sectional study. 35 Percent of subjects suffered from both physical and psychological distress, 23 percent had only physical distress and 8 percent had only psychological distress. A total of 6.5 percent of subjects had disablity of minimal to severe degree. Elderly women perceived poor social support and those in urban area perceived better social support. The study recommended that 52.5 percent sample subjects who were distressed had poor HRQOL . The reprodicibility validity and responsiveness of the study instrument as a whole needs to be evaluated for standardization and its furhter use in the community.

Abstract :
Objectives to evaluate the relationship between cancer of the oesophagus and risk factors, like pan-chewing tobacco , bidi and cigarette smoking , slcohol , mashiri, dietary factors and hereditary factors etc. The study population is 690 cases of tata memorial hospital , parel and J J group of hjospitals, byculla, Mumbai. History of cancer in family had 2.23 time more risk of developing cancr of oesophagus. An exclusive gegatarian diet was found to have a proective role in the developement of cancer of oesophagus. Consumption of carrots and citrus fruits was protective. Pan chewing was a significant risk factor. Persons chewing tobacco had 1.5 times more risk. Current cigarette smokers had almost twice at risk of cancer. Subjects who applied mashiri were 1.84 times more at risk as compared to non users. those who chewed betel nut were 2.67 times more at risk as compared to non -chewers. As all the risk factors are potentially preventable at the primary state, widespread health education of the masses should be embarked upon, soas to limit the use of noxious substance. A significant reductionamong risk factor ex cigarette and bidi smokers and ex-alcohol drinkers has been to encourage, dessatin of the above risk behaviour can be persued.time more at risk as compared to non chewers.

Aims to analyse the data pertaining to carcinoma brease in female patients attending MDTC, CH pune. to estabalish relationship between the underlying disease and the various epidemiological factors. The subjects of the study population are compared with matched controls in order to study the association, if, any of breast carcinoma with the follwoing variables ; marital status and parity, age at menarche and menopause, family history in 1st and 2nd degree relatinl anthropometry , breast feeding, blood group etc.Majoirty of cases and contents were in the age group of 41-50 years closely follow by 31-40 years. 55.02 percent of cases were from northern part of india . Majority of subjects were in socio economic class iv. 53 percent of cases had parity of 2-3 at the time of interview. Total of 96 cases and an equal number of controls were studied in HDTC, CH, pune. Matching done with confounding variables like age, socio-economic status and state of residence . Majority of cases were from northern part of india.

The study aims to study the demographic socio economic characteristics of the persons undergoing no scalpel vasectomy with regard to motivational factors of the acceptors.To study the matiration factors of the acceptors . To conduct client case audit of the acceptors. This is hospital based study individuals repling for no sclpel vasectomy at male family welfare centre LNJP. Mean age of the acceptors was 34.8 years. Majority of 184 of the acceptors educational males were high school and above. Pain was not experinced in 230 of acceptors. The study recommended that to improve acceptibility and availability of NSV, medical officer at the level of primary health centres and above should be trained in NSV technique .

Objectives to study the existing breast feeding weaning practice. To study the exisiting KAP regarding immunisation in mothers the relevant demographic and socio economic factors. To determine the need for appropriate health education. the study population urban slum community of malavani. 87 percent mothers had given breast feeding. 42.85 percent giving supplementary feed . 42.85 percent mothers had introduced complementary feeds. The study recommended that more than 25 percent mothers initiated breast feeding after 6 hrs and more than 43 percent mothers gave prelactal feeds.Health education should be given regarding breast feeding and weaning.

Aims to assess prevalence rate of Diabetes Mellitus' in Govt. colony , bandra, bombay. To study clinical profile of cases of the disease and to find out role of the same epidemiological factors. To identify some of the risk factors for development of diabetes. To improvoe awareness of people regarding diabetes mellitus. Study population is 8000 popole above 35 years of bandra govt. colony , bombay. The overall prevalence rate of diabetes mellitus was found to be 3.75 percent above the age of 35 ys. low physical diabetes mellitus. past history of pacriatitis mumps hepatitis addes to the atiological factor in diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is mor in female thatn in males below the age of 64 years . 49 percent of cases of diabetes, start in acute onset with emergency and a few have insidous onset. Accute information of those high risk should bew maintained at every level . Education is an effective too in diabetes mellitus. Spectial DI abetic centers/ Associations including disease and death registers, information centers field study programmes, research institutions , voluntary organisatins should be estabilshed in all places.
